John Turner – Learning 2.0gether Participant

Learning 2.0gether was a Lifelong Learning Project funded by the European Commission which aimed to both increase skills and encourage inter-generational learning! Alongside Voluntary Action Sheffield and partners in Italy and Spain, we developed training for young people who had been long-term unemployed, helping them to develop coaching skills and knowledge of using Social Media platforms for business. The young people then went on to train older workers from local small business in using a range of Social Media to promote their company.

John Turner was one of our Sheffield participants and gave his feedback on the programme:

What did you enjoy most about the programme?

This scheme gave me the opportunity to help a lot of people.  I learnt a lot of new skills and gained a lot of confidence in my abilities. It also inspired me about what I want to do next in my life and in the future.

To what extent did the programme improve your employability?

The key thing is that it vastly improved my soft skills. I’ve learnt a lot about how to put myself forward, give examples of my skills and demonstrate that I actually know how to do things. It also allowed me to promote myself through social media and join new websites. I have my own blog and twitter page now because of this.

Would you recommend the programme to others. If yes, why?

Everything that helps improve young people’s skills and employability is definitely a good thing. I think that it’s had a vast impact on my future, my life and what I want to do next, therefore I’d advise everyone and anyone out there to give it a go.
